Registration

So... you want to live at Contact Camp?

Fabulous!

a few notes...

First, registering is just for living at contact camp... all are quite welcome to come by and participate in classes, jams, and events... it is our mission at Contact Camp to make an inviting atmosphere for everyone to experience contact improvisation and related arts.

Second, Living at Contact Camp is primarilly for people who already have experience with contact. If you are simply looking for a friendly place to camp, we would be happy to point you in other directions, as there are a number of friendly healing and body art oriented camp camps that are less specifically focussed. check out the FAQs page for more details.

If you still would like to live with us, then read on ...

Last minute notes ...

It is now August 16. We have 62 people registered for Contact Camp, which is technically "full". However, there are usually cancellations and if you are a really good fit for Contact Camp and can really put the work in, we still can make some room, so feel free to contact us.

a few things to keep in mind at this point...

1) As we are full, new folks coming in are possible, but the bar is a bit higher in terms of contribution.

2)After August 19, we ask for another $20 per person.

3) After August 19, we don't guarantee being able to give any money back if you cancel (money spent is hard to get back).

Also, we are having a number of registered folk with a problem of schedules changing meaning they can't show up for shifts they had committed to (again, everyone is asked to do 2 of the following ... load-in, set-up, break down, load-out). If this is the case, i would ask everyone who is missing shifts to throw down some money or some other kind of substantial exchange to the folks who are picking up the slack as a kind of work trade.

We ask the following of everyone who is signing up to live at Contact Camp

  1. That you already have an ongoing practice in the world of contact improvisation, whether in the world of professional dance, in the community/jam scene, or in the world of contact workshops.
  2. That you commit to show up for some combination of Load-in (Grass Valley, Friday August 24), Set-up (on playa, Saturday, Aug 25, Clean-up (Monday, Sept 3, on-playa), and/or Load-out (Grass Valley, Tuesday Sept 4)
  3. That you show up on playa by Monday August 27 at 6pm for the opening meeting.
  4. That you show up on playa to help in at least two events (assisting or teaching in fundamentals classes, being at contact jams to help create an inviting atmosphere for newcomers to try out contact, etc)
  5. That sign up to do a share of workshifts on playa during the week ... (3 hours of clean, cook, etc)
  6. That you put in a minimum financial contribution. (see below for amounts and how to get it to us).

If you can't quite manage all of this for some reason but are still super-keen to camp with us, write and have a chat. Sometimes, we can have a little flex, particularly for people who are coming longer distances and have travel restrictions..

If you would like to sign up, the first step is to contact the coordinatrix at burningcontact@gmail.com to have a little e-mail exchange to see if camping with us at contact camp feels appropriate. Include a note about how much contact experience/exposure you have, and where you are coming from on the planet. Basically, have a little check-in about if you understand the basic camp responcibilities and about your engagement with contact improvisation.

Once you have checked in with the coordinatrix and things feel right, the second step is to send in money to hold a spot.

Everyone coming to Live at Contact Camp is putting in a finacial contribution to cover expenses... dance structures, living structures, kitchen, food, showers, transport of stuff, etc. Given that a) the cost per person goes up as we become a larger group and b) it makes life easier when we get earlier commitments, the minimum contribution we ask for goes up as more people register. For minimum contributions, we are at this point asking

$175 if you have it in before August 19

$195 after (if we still have space)

For reference sake, we started with $135 per person for the first 20, $155 per person for the second 20.

This is a minimum amount, and if you can put in more, you are highly encouraged to, so we can funnel it into various forms of improved infrastructure. We will take 60 for camp, which number we will reevaluate as we get closer. The aim this year is for a smaller, more focussed camp. (As per the note above, we are technically full, but if it is really good fit, we can squeeze ina few more.)

Three ways to send us money. You can ...

    • paypal to burningcontact@gmail.com. If you are taking this method, add 4% for paypal processing
    • give cash in person to either Munir Rashid (the coordinatrix for 2007) or Karl Frost (team captain).
    • send a check. write the check to Karl Frost and send to Karl Frost care of Sri Acala at 2833 Buena Vista Way, Berkeley, CA 94708. If taking this method, please send an e-mail to burningcontact@gmail.com and let us know that you are doing this, so we know at what point you are registering (and thus how much your minimum is and if we still have space for others.). Our protocal, here is that when we receive your e-mail saying that you HAVE ALREADYdropped it in the mail (not "are about to"), we consider you as registered at that point and therefore owing the minimum posted for that day. If we don't receive it in one week, then you owe a minimum based on when we receive it. If you are paying $20 or so above the minimum, then that doesn't matter so much...

If for some reason you have to cancel before the burn and you have sent money in, we would send money back but ask to keep $40, as long as you cancel by August 19. (Just want to make sure people have a sense of committing and also know that as we receive money, we tend to budget it into things and spend it on infrastructure and such... ie getting it back once spent is challenging.). After the 19th of August, we will not guarantee reimbursement.

Important note: this does NOT cover your burning man ticket which you must buy from Burning Man, and these are already on sale. goto the burning man web sitre at www.burningman.com

Third step, along with your money, send in a note (again to burningcontact@gmail.com) with your name, contact info, what day you plan on getting to the playa, where you are coming from/how you plan to get to the playa, if you either have a ride to offer or are in need of a ride (and where from/back to), what you can show up for of Load-in, Load-out, Set-up, Clean-up. Add into that anything about if you might be able to take on some work tasks leading up to the burn, if you have anything infrastructurally you migt be able to offer, and anything you would like to add about how you would like to participate in contact camp (including if you would like to teach.). Copy the letter from the registration letter page, fill it in, and send it to the coordinatrix.

Please also do sign up on Burningcontact tribe to be part of the dialogue leading up to camp… this is an online conversation site for logisticing and creative visioning (the one supporting the other).  Goto www.tribe.net and create an account, then search for and join the burningcontact tribe… the whole process of figuring the system out will probably take about 15 minutes at most, (though there is endless distraction to be found once you are connected to tribe). Here we will do a bit of public dreaming about what we would like to do there and also organize things like rideshare/carpool.

Again, the registration is just for Living at Contact Camp.   All are welcome to drop by and participate in events, and you don’t need to register with us for that (though if you would like to be very involved but are  going to be camping elsewhere, do let us know so we can keep you in the loop).

peace
