Presenter Proposals (being accepted through April 22)
The morning time slot is reserved for pre-arranged presentations of contact explorations. The term "presentation" is used rather than "class" to indicate that it is aimed towards peers who are self-motivated in wanting to see what you are working on. It may take the form of a class, but it is also open to taking other forms. As an example, my presentation in 2008 on passive sequencing work was something half-way between a class and lecture/discussion.
The first year, i invited a group of professionals whom i was excited about to come and present material that I felt was likely to be on the edges of contact improvisation, representing different investigations and cultures of exploration in contact.
For 2009, I wanted to move a bit closer to the idea of a festival of peers. As an experiment in that direction, I opened this process up, inviting whoever liked to propose material for presentation. This worked quite well, so we continue.
We will be accepting applications for presentations through the winter. Sometime in the spring, I will consult with a few like minded contactors and choose from amongst the applications which of the presentations sound like they would make the most interesting mix.
Our criteria will include
- the Experience of the presenter with their subject matter and contact explorations generally
- the Subject of the presentation (emphasis on interesting new directions of exploration, challenges to existing explorations, or deepening of long standing explorations)
- (new for 2011) New Voices - those who have presented recently at Sierra are encouraged to send in proposals again, but a few slots will be reserved for those who have not presented before or recently.
Presenters have their festival fee waived and just have to cover food and facilities.
If you are interested in presenting, answer the following questions to info@bodyresearch.org
regards
Karl Frost
1)Name
2)Where do you live?
3)How much and what kind of experience do you have with contact-based explorations? Do you identify more with the contemporary performance world, the jam scene, or other?
4)give a title and short description (100 words or less) of a presentation you would like to do. This will be for publicity if it is chosen. Beyond this, write something not more than 500 words that explains the work further, how it engages your interest, how it is applied, and how long and in what context have you been exploring this topic.
(If there are a few things that you would like to throw into the hat for presentations, feel free to give multiple answers to question 4.)
