A weekend workshop exploring the poetic intersections of physics and felt experience in Contact Improvisation

with Karl Frost/Body Research

The physics of encounter with other and the play off of each other’s physical structure throws us into new (dis)orientations.  The encounter with the curiosity and impulses of another human takes us where our own might not guide us. In this workshop, we let go of how, through social mask and body-use, we habitually construct our “sense of self”, and we allow other parts of ourselves to manifest. We let go of ‘thinking our way through’ and then deliberately experiment with new textures and strategies of contact exploration. Control and abandon interplay.

As a result, we dive/fall down rabbit holes of possibility in the felt experience of the body.

This workshop is for those who already have some classes under their belt and is for those who are physically and intellectually curious about the body.

PS. Body Research is working on a new piece, to be performed in early summer, tentatively called, “Toca Me”.  This workshop is the seed for this interactive performance.  Part of what that means is that there are a lot of experienced and engaged movers participating, which should make for a really fun weekend!
